RECOUNT TEXT

DEFINITION AND EXAMPLE
Definition:
It is a text that retell past events, usually in the order in which they happened

Social Function:
To retell events for the purpose of informing or entertaining

Generic Structure of a recount text:
·         Orientation: provides the setting and introduces participants.
·         Events: tell what happened, in what sequence.
·         Re-orientation: optional-closure of events.

Significant Lexicogrammatical features:
·         Focus on specific participants
·         Use of material processes
·         Circumstances of time and place
·         Use of past tense
·         Focus on temporal sequence.
